A wonderful day out on one of England’s most beloved heritage steam railways, journeying through 10 miles of beautiful Hampshire countryside between the Georgian town of Alresford and the market town of Alton.
The Experience 🌿
The Watercress Line — officially the Mid Hants Railway — takes its charming name from the watercress once transported by train across the country from the Hampshire chalk streams.  Your all-day ticket lets you hop on and off at four heritage stations — Alresford, Ropley, Medstead & Four Marks, and Alton — each brimming with period character and preserved history.
A traditional ploughman’s lunch with dessert is served at your seat as the steam engine carries you through glorious countryside, with views towards the South Downs National Park.  Previous guests have praised the well-presented ham and cheese ploughman’s as “highly recommended,” with friendly volunteer staff adding to the nostalgic charm.

Day Schedule 🕒
